SAFE in Hunterdon welcomes and encourages graduate students in counseling, social work and creative arts therapies to apply for placement at our agency. At present, we have been approved to accept students from Rutgers State University, Montclair State University, Pratt, and Marywood, to name a few. Our interns must take the mandatory Domestic and Sexual Violence Victim Counselor Training to qualify to provide counseling for our adult, teen and child clients. A background check and a two-step interview is conducted before approval.
Our placements are highly competitive because we offer a diverse exposure to various populations, including those in our residential programs, counseling program, art, music and dance therapy programs, legal advocacy program and hotline. Our interns are paid minimum wage for their time after they receive training and are reimbursed for travel mileage to offsite facilities.
SAFE in Hunterdon also accepts a small number of undergraduate students majoring in the social sciences. They are typically juniors and seniors with a GPA of 3.2 or better. On occasion, we accept other students on a very limited basis, for example from Raritan Valley Community College. Please send your resume and attach documentation from your school if you are interested. No walk-ins or phone calls are permitted for first time contact. Kindly contact the Executive Director in writing via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
